Focused on High Performance: An Interview with David Nash of Trust Building

At BrightBuilt, we are lucky to get a chance to work with many different builders based across New England and beyond. We love building these relationships, and getting to know each outfit well enough to determine who might have the most impressive tool collection, who might have the cutest shop dogs, or who would be most likely to win in a local potato sack race (and of course practical things, like who would be the best fit for a given client).

In this round of “meet a builder of BrightBuilt Homes,” we wanted to take a moment to chat with David Nash, owner of Trust Building LLC, of Plymouth, NH. Having completed both modular and stick-built BrightBuilt Homes, among many other high-performance homes, David has some great insights on both the high-performance world and off-site construction.

What is your history with building high-performance homes? How did you get started?

I’ve been involved in the building industry since around 1980, thanks to my two older brothers who were also builders. Back in the late ’70s, they were constructing what were considered “high-performance” homes by the standards of that era. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when I started building high-performance homes, as it’s been an evolving process over the years. However, my true introduction to what we now define as high-performance homes has really taken off in the last few years. There’s so much to learn in the field, but the wealth of information available online has been a huge resource for me as well.

What brought you to BrightBuilt?

I was first introduced to BrightBuilt when they reached out to me to build one of their homes for a client in my area. That’s how the relationship began.

What do you most enjoy about building?

I (and my team) love the creativity and the satisfaction of bringing something into existence with our own hands. It’s a truly rewarding process—starting with an idea, then putting it on paper, and finally transforming it into a structure of wood and stone that provides shelter and creates a beautiful sense of space.

In your mind, what are some of the primary benefits of off-site construction?

Predictability and consistency! Stick-built homes have their merits, but off-site construction eliminates so many potential delays caused by weather or scheduling conflicts. Plus, the quality and structural integrity are major advantages.

What other interests do you pursue when you aren’t on the job site?

Uhhh… :) Well, I play music, ride motorcycles, ski, and just love living life to the fullest. I’m deeply thankful to God for the time I’ve been given on this earth.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Ultimately, the greatest gift we can offer is to give to those around us. Whether it’s family, clients, or co-workers, being a compassionate and considerate person is essential, no matter who you’re working for or with.
